Norwegian Wood:

Things here are a little crazy right now. Since I finished my three weeks of work experience at Gaffa I've stayed on as a freelance writer for them, which has given me quite a bit of work. Currently, I'm working on a large article on British bands, which means I have to write and combine a bunch of smaller articles and do interviews, which is a lot of fun, but really time consuming. Also, Monday I'm going to Oslo to interview Athlete, which should be quite an experience. A little hectic though, as I have to fly back the same day, because Evan Dando is playing a show here, which I've been looking forward to for ages.

I also had a job interview this week. It was for a job as assistant in a music organisation, but after the interview it was pretty clear this wasn't the job for me. The actual job sounded incredibly boring and it wasn't what I thought I had applied for. It was only for six months, didn't pay well at all, and it would require me to move meaning I would have to get a room somewhere and pay rent two places. There were even more things that would cause problems, so all through the interview I was waiting for the boss to say something, which could make up for all the negatives. But since that never happened I just decided I should just make it clear I wasn't interested instead of maybe getting called to a second interview. But on the plus side I did get called to an interview, which means there was something in my application and resumé they liked. So at least there's that.

The next week I'll be working like crazy, but Thursday I'm going to Copenhagen to see The Frames at Loppen. I really like "Burn the Maps" and I'm excited about seeing Outspan Foster in person. Friday, some friends are DJing at Stengade 30, so I'll be going to that and earlier the same day I'm going to an art opening at the V1 Gallery. I think the rest of the weekend will be spent chillin' with a lady friend, so that's sounds like a pretty good conclusion to a long workweek to me.

Last week I went to see The Raveonettes and I thought it was a smashing show. Sharin Foo now plays guitar, which means they've added a bass player to the line-up for more noisy fun. The old songs were great as always, but out of the eight new songs they played ("Pretty in Black" is out on April 26th) two or three were great and Love in a Trash Can was fantastic. I was fairly disappointed by "Chain Gang of Love", but I think the new one will be really cool.

I don't get to update the boxes on the right as often as I'd like, but right now I'm mostly listening to the new records from The Arcade Fire, Bloc Party, The Kills, Maximo Park, Iron & Wine, and Low. But there's a deadline screaming at me, so I better get back to work.

I lookede for your name in the current issue, but you were only credited for a review of the Arcade Fire. Maybe you'll be featured more prominently in the upcomming edition, with all the running around your doing at the moment and all. Sounds exciting.

I'll most likely have larger pieces in the next two issues. But if you look through the current issue I think you'll find that besides the Arcade Fire review I'm also credited for reviews of albums by The Fiery Furnaces, Polly Paulusma, and Stereo Total.

Cool, I'll go back and check then.

I checked the mag for your name too and squeed loudly when I saw it.

I'm not big on Arcade Fire - they are okay but nothing more. Bloc Party reminds me of very, very early Blur which is not a bad thing. Have you checked out the Kaiser Chiefs? Certainly the Brit band I'm most excited about at the mo.

People have been really excited on my behalf lately, because I've gotten stuff in the magazine, which is an incredibly fantastic feeling.

I'm only vaguely familiar with Kaiser Chiefs, but I like what I've heard so far. All these new, British bands sound a little like 80s bands I've been into, so lately I've been listening to a lot more British music than usual.

I really like Bloc Party and think the album is great. I have an advance copy of the forthcoming Maximo Park record and I've been listening to it nonstop the last week. It's fantastic, so keep an eye on those guys. Also, keep an eye out for The Bravery and the fabulously named Louis XIV (who are actually from Portland).
